Update on my Health

Posted by Fallon in Health on December 8th, 2008 |  No Comments »

A few weeks ago I suddenly wasn’t able to hear too well out of my right ear. I thought it was extremely strange and aggravating but I waited it out a few days before going into the doctors and finding out what it could be. I thought it would go away because I never had anything like this happen when I didn’t even have a cold.

When I went in I found out that I had some water behind my ear drum which made sense because it really sounded like I was listening to things from under water, so annoying. She gave me some amoxicillin and nasal decongestants even though I didn’t feel stuffy but she said that could help dry out the fluid in my ear and prevent more from dripping back. Then she said if it wasn’t better in a week I should see my regular doctor because she was just an on call doctor in the urgent care area of the building and it can take up to two weeks to be seen by your normal doctor when you make an appointment.

Well luckily after about 2 or 3 days of taking everything I started to feel a lot better and boy was I relieved to have my hearing back! I guess a little infection started in my Eustachian tube because it was not functioning right and so fluid got trapped. It’s mostly common in children but I had lots of ear problems as a child and it can be caused from other things such as allergy or other irritants..

I have an appointment for a physical this Wednesday though. I hate going but it is good to go and get a full check up, blah!

Make Turkey Curry with Leftover Turkey

Posted by Fallon in Cooking and Food on December 3rd, 2008 |  No Comments »

We had a really good Thanksgiving this year, we made our own Thanksgiving dinner at home and then went to my dad’s house on Thanksgiving. We had tons of our own leftovers plus we also got some leftovers from my dads because there was way too much left over there as well. We ended up with tons of turkey and we got slightly sick of turkey with gravy and turkey sandwiches so I decided to use some of the turkey to make Turkey Curry. I actually made this dish twice with the leftovers, I have made this dish differently before using chicken but made it a different way this time.

So if you have tons of turkey left over as well the only other things you need are about 1/2 an onion, 1 green apple, 2 tablespoons curry powder, 2 tablespoons flour, 1 can chicken broth, 1/2 teaspoon ginger and about 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. You also need some cooked white rice to serve this over.

Melt some butter in a pan and add the chopped onion and apple. Let them simmer a bit until they are soft and then add the curry, flour and ginger. Stir until it is combined well and then add the chicken broth. Heat that until it boils and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Finally, add 3 cups of turkey in bite size pieces and let that simmer for 10 minutes longer and then add the lemon juice in right before serving. Serve over hot rice and it makes a really delicious meal! Enjoy!

California Fires

Posted by Fallon in Life on November 19th, 2008 |  No Comments »

It’s really sad how there are so many fires going on right now.. This is supposedly the worst case of fires since 40 years ago, especially for this time of year! The reason for that is because of the record high temperatures for around this time of year combined with the winds. Luckily where we live has never been affected by raging fires because we don’t fall in a path where they tend to burn. We aren’t on a hill, in a forest etc.. which is the path they usually follow. Although about 10 miles from me there was a fire burning in Diamond Bar, some forestry area of the city.

When we would go outside we could smell the smoke though and see it floating in the sky, it was pretty nasty and sad. I guess it is really important to be careful where you buy your house because many houses were damaged and I believe some firemen were hurt as well. I hope everyone recovers well and gets back on there feet even though that may be easier said than done.

At this point though I’m more worried about this supposed big earthquake that’s expected, it could happen in this lifetime but then there is the possibility of it not but it’s supposed to be a 7 point something I believe. I don’t think I have ever felt something that big before, I’ve only felt a few earthquakes in my lifetime even though tiny ones are happenning all of the time. Just got to be prepared I guess!

Well..

Well I haven’t written in here for a while, I have no posts for November at all! I’ve just been busy with projects and other things as I have said in the past. I really meant to get on here and write about how our Halloween went and post up some adorable pictures of the kids. I will probably post a few pictures later but their Halloween was really fun! We carved a cool looking pumpkin and baked the seeds. We went trick or treating for about an hour.. and then we were all tired and came home, besides we got plenty of candy from that short trip anyways.

My daughter enjoyed saying “trick or treat” at the doors and felt really proud of the candy she earned. Of course the second we got home I had to go and check each piece to make sure it looked safe and then monitor her intake = ) As we all know, most parents help with the intake part anyways hehe My son wasn’t too sure what was going on but he looked cute in his little pumpkin outfit and enjoyed looking around..

Last time I wrote I also mentioned my daughter needed to get her flu shot still and she did but she wasn’t happy about it at all! This was the first time where she actually started to scream before they even touched her with it. It made me feel bad and I’m not looking forward to any future shots but I will just have to give her a pep talk the next time so she’s more comfortable..

Flu Shots

Posted by Fallon in Health, Children on October 29th, 2008 |  No Comments »

I know there are many different opinions about the flu shot and whether it is necessary or not but I think it is important for young children. I think it is even more important if there is a history of asthma in the family because there are so many illnesses of pnuemonia that are caused from the flu virus every year. Neither one of my children show any signs of asthma and my daughter is 3 so hopefully it would have showed up by now if she was going to be affected and it hasn’t so I am glad for that.

My son had his appointment yesterday and got his flu shot, it was really quick and he only whined for a second and that was it. My daughter still needs to go and get hers so I will be taking her soon as well. I hate for them to get poked by needles and I worry about possible side effects, etc.. but I just feel that it is in their best interest. I think the flu shot is recommended up until age 5 but then wont they be more likely to get the flu once they start school? Hmmmm.. It is okay for anyone to get one but the young and elderly just need them more so maybe they will continue through their school age years as well.
