3 Hour Glucose

So I went for the 3 hour glucose test and I had to fast the night before. I was pretty hungry when I woke up in the morning and I also woke up a little later than I had plannedĀ  since I felt so tired. I got to the lab around 9:20 am and I am glad I got there then because the cut off for the 3 hour glucose test before their lunch is 9:30 so that the patient’s testing wont interfere with their lunch. They took my blood right when I got there and then gave me this sick lime sugary drink that I had to finish within 5 minutes. It didn’t take me even close to 5 minutes even though it was sick haha. So then they told me I’d be getting my blood drawn at 10:23, 11:23 and 12:23 and that I couldn’t leave.. so I had to sit in the waiting room with my daughter and fiance. Yikes was that a challenge. My daughter had a lot of energy and I had to keep coming up with things to keep her occupied for the first hour.

I let her draw and play with some paper, gave her a snack, tried making shapes with pieces of napkin. haha I was getting real creative for a while. The first hour was finally up and they took my blood. After the first hour my daughter really wanted out of her stroller, so we let her walk around the waiting room a bit and decided to go in the hallway.. even though I wasn’t supposed to leave I didn’t think that would really hurt anything since I pretty much tell the people at the desk when it’s time for my blood to be taken anyways(as long as I don’t do anything too physical because that burns up the sugar.) We also went downstairs and got her some trail mix and tommy a drink (my fiance) Ok, so I got my blood taken a second time and then it seemed to take forever for the last hour to pass. I went to get the last sample drawn but this time it wasn’t so easy. The first 3 times they took blood they found my veins easily, but suddenly my veins didn’t wanna drain anymore. They poked both of my arms like two times each and finally resorted to drawing it from my wrist. I wish they would’ve done that in the first place instead of leaving a major bruise on one of my arms! It seems like the nurses get a little careless sometimes. I hope I never have to do that test again, 3 hours seems a bit insane to me.

I’m glad It’s over with and hopefully the results come back alright. I guess how they analyze them is they test all 3 samples and they should all range between certain numbers to be good and if 2 or more aren’t within the range and they are too high then they consider that gestational diabetes. If anything I think I may have a mild case according to my glucose test I already took.. and it might go away after the pregnancy. So I didn’t go shopping afterward, I just wanted to get home and wash the clinic off of me and my daughter. We put together a cute little shelf for my daughter tonight though and we’re gonna decide where to put it later on. She really got the idea of it though! She was putting her toys in all of the little cubby holes, it was so cute! Her mouth still hurts her slightly, but her appetite is way better. Poor baby!
