Aquarium
Tommy and I decided to start our own aquarium. We chose a 10 gallon starter kit that came with a filter and heater. He was pretty excited about starting our own tank and so was I. I chose purple and black gravel to go in.. yeah I know it isn’t very much of the natural look but I think it looks swell. We also got some live plants to go in. I already knew a great deal about aquariums because I’ve had fish when I was younger and I’ve also written articles about them.
So after we purchased the tank and a stand.. we took them home = ) we rinsed everything off in water using no soap because that can leave a residue.. including the gravel. First we put the gravel in the tank and filled it up a third of the way and set the live plants in and the rock/cave thing we got. After that we finished filling it the rest of the way using a large bucket. Then we put the filter and heater in place and last the light. We put some conditioning drops in the water to get rid of any chlorine and other things that can harm the fish. Lastly, we let the water sit for a while so the water could get warmed up.
We currently have 3 guppies, 2 mollys, some tetras and a little spotted cory.. plus tommy wanted a ghost shrimp so we got that. They are all doing well right now and I plan to keep it that way. For the first month we’ll be doing a 10 percent water change weekly and after it is more established we’ll change about 25 percent monthly.
The tank is very fun to watch. My favorite is the little cory, he is so cute. He searches the gravel for any food that the rest of the fish didn’t get to. Feeding time is the most fun part of having them. I love watching them dart around to get it. I also love both of the mollys.
