My Son’s 1 year Check Up

Posted by: Fallon

September 24th, 2008 >> Children, Health

So today was my son’s 1 year check up, it was at 10 AM and we were all up pretty early so that we had a chance to get ready. Everything went pretty good and he weighs 22 pounds 3 ounces and is 30 inches long, the doctor said he is exactly where he should be. They also measured his head(not sure what the measurements were on that) checked his ears, chest, pulse, tummy etc.. He got 4 different shots today and 2 seemed to hurt more than the other 2, so the poor baby had 2 pokes on each leg. We also got a lab sheet to get the annual check for lead and iron, he just got his iron checked a few months ago and it ended up coming back alright but they’re just checking again since he needed the lead test anyways.

From the time we got to his doctor’s until the time we left to the lab only took like 30 minutes but then we were at the lab for about another 40 minutes. They ended up poking both of his arms because they couldn’t get a vein in the first one. It made me feel so bad and I really dislike going to that lab. But other than that his doctor said they will probably have flu shots available in about a month, so I’ll be taking him back for that and then I don’t think he has to go back for another check up until he is 18 months.

September Birthdays

September 22nd, 2008 >> Children, Fun, Holidays

I’ve been pretty busy lately with the different birthdays and other things going on. It has been pretty fun lately but I just haven’t had the time to get on here and write about any of it. My son’s birthday went really well, he enjoyed his first cake and got many great gifts. The new toys/books and things have been keeping both my son and his sister very busy because apparently my daughter loves baby toys too lol It’s okay though, she has been pretty helpful. She helped her brother open his gifts and has shown him how the toys work.

Just before that was my boyfriend’s birthday and it went pretty good too and we ate a nice dinner together. He doesn’t really seem any older but neither does my son, although I still can’t believe he is 1 year old. He is getting new teeth in like crazy right now. Both the top and bottom lateral incisors are coming in now, so he almost has 8 teeth now. I took tons of pictures of my son’s birthday so I am glad we will all be able to cherish his first birthday forever. In two days is is his 1 year check up and I will write about that later when I find out his weight and height measurements. He will also be getting a few shots =( I’m sure everything will go fine as usual and that he is healthy. Check back later!

Nannies and Babysitters

I recently signed up at nannies4hire.com and babysitters4hire.com just to see what type of jobs were available and what the parents were looking for. I think it would be fun to take care of other kids and give my children other kids to play with. I stay home and take care of my kids anyways, so why not watch a few extra? I actually got a text message yesterday from a mom asking if I was still interested in a position but I haven’t responded yet.

I guess I’m just going to think about it a little more before I decide what to do but if I do get a job I would much rather watch the children from my home instead of going over to their house. I am also more interested in watching children age 5 and under because that is just a fun age group but I’d probably be willing to watch older children as well. This does seem like a nice way to earn extra cash as well as something fun to do so we will see what happens.

Top teeth in

One of my son’s top teeth has come in finally. I can’t really tell but it might look like the one next to it is popping through as well. So this will mean he has 3 teeth now, maybe 4! My son has also recently decided that he does not like baby food and he just slaps it away, I guess he is bored of the textures and plain flavors but he proudly eats anything that we happen to be eating. He is actually a very neat and clean eater for a baby, he doesn’t get food all over himself when I give him tiny pieces of things like I would imagine him doing. He eats yogurt, pieces of cheese, cheerios, crackers, pastas i cook, soft veggies, banana, grapes, pieces of toasted bread, soft pieces of meat(tuna and salmon are easier for him) egg and pretty much anything he can mash.

He has also been drinking whole milk, I’ll give him whole milk until he turns 2 because he needs the fat for his brain development but then I will switch to lowfat unless he is on the slim side. He is also getting less clumsy at walking and walks a lot more. He doesn’t fall as much as he used to and he is soo proud of himself, it is adorable. We have taken many pictures of it and also recorded some videos of it although the videos always come out a bit dark which is a disappointment.

Pre School at Home

I know in the past I have thought about putting my daughter in pre school when she turned 4 but I actually feel more comfortable waiting for her to start Kindergarten. I would just worry about her way too much and besides she knows most of the things that they would teach her there anyways. She knows her first and last name, she can count to 10 but I hope for her to be able to count to 20 soon, she knows her alphabet, mostly capital letter but still and she knows all of her shapes including things like oval and hexagon and her colors of course and more. She is also able to use the mouse to click and move things on my computer, like dress up games for kids and certain learning games.

I read often to her and she sits there intently listening and she has just recently begun to use scissors (kid scissors) and she does projects with construction paper and things, glue, markers, painting with water colors. She has also improved with coloring, she colors the different parts of the picture instead of just scribbling and she is one of the most vocal kids I know, the things she says shock me sometimes because she just sounds so smart. She is also at the stage where she asks “why?” a lot, she wants to understand how everything works and why it is the way it is. One of the reasons why I was considering putting her into pre school was because my dad thinks everyone should go, but I don’t really agree anymore because she is safer at home.

Finally got a Good Picture of him Walking

We were finally able to get a pretty good picture of him in the midst of walking by himself. Not only does he walk back and fourth from mommy to daddy, but he also walks on his own now. It’s pretty cool to see him let go of whatever support he’s holding and then just start walking out. He’s going to be running soon! What a funny place for him to choose to start walking, right over his toys. I think he plopped down a few seconds after this picture was taken. I guess it is time to go get him his first pair of actual shoes!

Here’s some other picture on another day of him holding onto something while standing and smirking up a storm. He runs around in a diaper like that quite often on hot days like it has been! Last but not least here is another picture of him standing, with clothes on! These are actually some clothes we got him not that long ago, since kids grow so quickly I usually buy him size 12-18 months so he will fit in it longer but he still fits in 9-12 and even 6-9 surprisingly, but that runs a bit on the small size. Look at my growing boy!

My Son’s First Steps

Posted by: Fallon

August 22nd, 2008 >> Children

Last night my boyfriend and I were practicing walking with our son and it was so cute. We would sit across from each other, a few feet apart and then one of us would stand him up while the other called and encouraged him to walk over. Sometimes he would get ahead of himself and fall over but many times he took several steps and actually reached the opposite parent! He can walk! He just needs more practice and balance so we are going to do this little exercise every night with him so that he develops more trust in himself.

Our daughter also helped too by calling him over and he would walk to her as well, but then her jealous side would act up and she’d be like “It’s my turn!” and she wanted to show us that she could walk as well haha. We got a few pictures of him standing and stepping but sometimes just as we would take the picture he would fall right over, but that always happens. Anytime we catch something cute happenning it is done before we ever have time to get the camera and snap the picture.
