I have been sick for a little over a week now, it started out with a really sore throat and fever and then I lost my voice. I am so glad that my voice is almost all the way back to how it normally is. Right now I still have an irritated and itchy throat with a cough but I feel a lot better. The kids did not get as sick as me at all, towards the end of my sickness they picked up a slight cough.. and their father doesn’t seem to have any symptoms at all.
I’m thinking this was a case of the flu and that is why the children did not become as sick as I did (since they got their flu shots) because that is the only explanation I can come up with. I am just glad that it is almost over with and I need to try and keep myself warmer at night.
A few weeks ago I suddenly wasn’t able to hear too well out of my right ear. I thought it was extremely strange and aggravating but I waited it out a few days before going into the doctors and finding out what it could be. I thought it would go away because I never had anything like this happen when I didn’t even have a cold.
When I went in I found out that I had some water behind my ear drum which made sense because it really sounded like I was listening to things from under water, so annoying. She gave me some amoxicillin and nasal decongestants even though I didn’t feel stuffy but she said that could help dry out the fluid in my ear and prevent more from dripping back. Then she said if it wasn’t better in a week I should see my regular doctor because she was just an on call doctor in the urgent care area of the building and it can take up to two weeks to be seen by your normal doctor when you make an appointment.
Well luckily after about 2 or 3 days of taking everything I started to feel a lot better and boy was I relieved to have my hearing back! I guess a little infection started in my Eustachian tube because it was not functioning right and so fluid got trapped. It’s mostly common in children but I had lots of ear problems as a child and it can be caused from other things such as allergy or other irritants..
I have an appointment for a physical this Wednesday though. I hate going but it is good to go and get a full check up, blah!
Well I haven’t written in here for a while, I have no posts for November at all! I’ve just been busy with projects and other things as I have said in the past. I really meant to get on here and write about how our Halloween went and post up some adorable pictures of the kids. I will probably post a few pictures later but their Halloween was really fun! We carved a cool looking pumpkin and baked the seeds. We went trick or treating for about an hour.. and then we were all tired and came home, besides we got plenty of candy from that short trip anyways.
My daughter enjoyed saying “trick or treat” at the doors and felt really proud of the candy she earned. Of course the second we got home I had to go and check each piece to make sure it looked safe and then monitor her intake = ) As we all know, most parents help with the intake part anyways hehe My son wasn’t too sure what was going on but he looked cute in his little pumpkin outfit and enjoyed looking around..
Last time I wrote I also mentioned my daughter needed to get her flu shot still and she did but she wasn’t happy about it at all! This was the first time where she actually started to scream before they even touched her with it. It made me feel bad and I’m not looking forward to any future shots but I will just have to give her a pep talk the next time so she’s more comfortable..
I know there are many different opinions about the flu shot and whether it is necessary or not but I think it is important for young children. I think it is even more important if there is a history of asthma in the family because there are so many illnesses of pnuemonia that are caused from the flu virus every year. Neither one of my children show any signs of asthma and my daughter is 3 so hopefully it would have showed up by now if she was going to be affected and it hasn’t so I am glad for that.
My son had his appointment yesterday and got his flu shot, it was really quick and he only whined for a second and that was it. My daughter still needs to go and get hers so I will be taking her soon as well. I hate for them to get poked by needles and I worry about possible side effects, etc.. but I just feel that it is in their best interest. I think the flu shot is recommended up until age 5 but then wont they be more likely to get the flu once they start school? Hmmmm.. It is okay for anyone to get one but the young and elderly just need them more so maybe they will continue through their school age years as well.
A while back I wrote about wanting to either quit taking my birth control or switch to a new kind. Well I ended up going to my appointment a little more than a week ago and ended up getting a new type of pill. My check up went fine and she gave me a lab sheet to check my potassium since Yaz can affect that, but it came back fine as well. The only reason I never switched sooner was because it did a good job at keeping me from getting pregnant.
Well anyways I ended up getting Microgestin FE 1/20. I wanted to try Loestrin 24 FE but my insurance didn’t cover that and it can cost 50 something dollars a month so she gave me the generic to Loestrin 1/20 FE which is covered. The FE part just means that the last 7 pills of the pack are iron. I have been taking this new kind for maybe 10 days now and haven’t really had any bad symptoms, I think I might even feel better but I just hope that they do their job as well as Yaz did.
It’s amazing how many different types of pills exist out there as well as other contraceptives and it can be so frustrating to find the one that works best with your body.. if one of them doesn’t seem to be working well with your body and you have given your body the 3 months to adjust and you still don’t feel right then you should probably talk to your doctor about trying something else instead of waiting the way that i did.
So I don’t have anymore refills for my current birth control Yaz and I need to schedule an appointment to get a refill before this month’s supply runs out. I am kind of curious to see how I would feel without taking them for a while but I also don’t want to end up pregnant. These pills seem to make me a bit moody and weird. I will probably just go and get some more but I want to switch to a new kind because my current type can increase potassium and I don’t really feel comfortable with that. I don’t really feel comfortable taking any medicine at all but I definitely have enough children right now. I’ll write about this more when I decide what I am going to do..
So today was my son’s 1 year check up, it was at 10 AM and we were all up pretty early so that we had a chance to get ready. Everything went pretty good and he weighs 22 pounds 3 ounces and is 30 inches long, the doctor said he is exactly where he should be. They also measured his head(not sure what the measurements were on that) checked his ears, chest, pulse, tummy etc.. He got 4 different shots today and 2 seemed to hurt more than the other 2, so the poor baby had 2 pokes on each leg. We also got a lab sheet to get the annual check for lead and iron, he just got his iron checked a few months ago and it ended up coming back alright but they’re just checking again since he needed the lead test anyways.
From the time we got to his doctor’s until the time we left to the lab only took like 30 minutes but then we were at the lab for about another 40 minutes. They ended up poking both of his arms because they couldn’t get a vein in the first one. It made me feel so bad and I really dislike going to that lab. But other than that his doctor said they will probably have flu shots available in about a month, so I’ll be taking him back for that and then I don’t think he has to go back for another check up until he is 18 months.
