More Rested Lately

August 19th, 2008 >> Life

I have been feeling pretty rested lately, like instead of struggling just to stand up in the morning, I actually jump out of bed a lot earlier and am ready to start doing things. I have been getting a bit more sleep though and going to bed earlier. I’ve recently realized just how important sleep is, because without it I am like a walking zombie. So sometimes, instead of finishing up those dinner dishes I just wait until the morning to do them.

Doing them at night does help to save time during the day though when things get hectic but whatever as long as it gets done. Besides, during the day my daughter likes to help a lot with the different things I do and that’s pretty fun.  I have also recently found her to be a bit more independent, like instead of being right next to me every hour of the day, she actually will go in her bedroom and play with all of her toys. Now there is a humongous mess afterwards and almost everything she owns is on the ground, but I don’t mind, I just leave it there until she is finished playing.

Expensive Housing

Why do houses have to be so expensive.. even apartments are expensive, just any type of housing. Even though the the prices of houses have dropped a lot they are still kind of high, my dad says that they should be dropping a little more though. The rent we are paying right now is actually pretty good compared to similar places and I am certain that anyone who moved in after us pays more than we do because prices everywhere are going up so quick, our rent actually went up 50 dollars! Anyways, I was recently looking around to see if I could find a 2 bedroom house to rent for the same amount we pay now because a yard would be an awesome benefit for the same price, but no such luck.

Pretty much all 2 bedroom houses are going for like 2,500 or more and for a price like that we may as well be paying off a morgtage. A house of our own would be awesome but you need such a large down payment and it is also kind of hard to decide on where you want to live for the next 35+ years or probably more. What I want most is just a yard, that’s one very negative thing about apartments.. with a yard we could have a swing set and do different activites outside all day, have barbeques, garden and just relax under the trees. Well we are still young, so I am sure that will happen sometime.. I just wish it were sooner than later.

Dog Bite

I think a little over a week ago my dad called me up asking for advice about a dog he found. He had found a friendly dog running around outside and he did not want anything to happen to it so he let it in his yard and was watching it until he could find where the dog’s home was or something. I knew it was a bad idea though because my dog Max and this dog are both males and I knew that there was going to be territory issues.

Well I guess right after introducing them, which my dad should have avoided, my dog started attacking the other dog and my dad instinctively tried to separate them. My dad ended up getting bit by one of them and it became infected within a few days! Leave it to my dad. My dad went to the doctor’s though and got it checked out. They gave him some antibiotics through an IV for 3 days. He didn’t have to stay at the hospital or anything, he just had to go back daily.

His hand is fine now but they also had an x-ray done to make sure nothing was broken and they found a tiny piece of metal in his hand.  Well this is definitely from one of his little projects. At least the infection is gone now.

Power Outage and Earthquake in California

July 31st, 2008 >> Life

A lot of things have been going wrong lately, unpreventable things. It is just obnoxious how so much has happened in a very short time. I probably wont get into a few things but about 2 days ago a transformer blew up again and our electricity was out from 6 pm to 2 am. I’m beginning to wonder if there is a defect in the transformers near us because this just happened a few months ago-not that long ago!

The next day there was an earthquake just before noon. I haven’t felt an earthquake in a while.. I mean they are always happenning but they are just too tiny to feel. This one was about a 5.4 I really hate the way that earthquakes feel, feels like monsters are under our house shaking it about. It lasted a few seconds and nothing even fell off the walls but still. I was pretty freaked out and actually find my reaction amusing now.

The earthquake didn’t do much damage anywhere but I did see something on the news where the street opened up somewhere and water was spilling out. Some stores also had stuff knocked off shelves. I’m sure it must have felt super weird to have been driving while it happened. Oh well, I’m just glad things are back to normal right now.

Climate Change..

I can’t believe that a climate change protester tried to super glue himself to the Prime Minister’s hand in London, luckily it was unsuccessful. The guy who did it was Dan Glass,  a 24 year old member of Plane Stupid and they campaign against airport expansion. I guess the guy was upset because the government seemed to be ignoring the public’s objections to constructing a 3rd runway at the Heathrow Airport in London.

Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister could actually be heard laughing when the man began his demonstration! It is amazing what people will do. Dan Glass reassured him that he was following a non violent procedure. No police action was taken against this.

Dan Glass was quoted saying, “We can beat climate change, but this is not going to happen by planning the world’s largest international airport at Heathrow.”

Anyways, I just though this was a bit funny and interesting at the same time.

Summer Cleaning

July 18th, 2008 >> Life

Yesterday was a fun little day where I did lots of cleaning and dusting. I moved all of the furniture out so that I could vacuum under it as well. It is amazing how quickly things can become dusty, rather annoying.

Before I started cleaning in the afternoon we went to the park early and my daughter enjoyed running around and playing on all the stuff there. Her brother enjoyed watching her. After she played for a bit we went for a walk and looked at all the different houses and things. I enjoy walks a lot and it was very fun to look at the houses since some were very beautiful. They were nothing like Laguna Beach, but they were still very cute.
