So I went for the 3 hour glucose test and I had to fast the night before. I was pretty hungry when I woke up in the morning and I also woke up a little later than I had plannedĀ since I felt so tired. I got to the lab around 9:20 am and I am glad I got there then because the cut off for the 3 hour glucose test before their lunch is 9:30 so that the patient’s testing wont interfere with their lunch. They took my blood right when I got there and then gave me this sick lime sugary drink that I had to finish within 5 minutes. It didn’t take me even close to 5 minutes even though it was sick haha. So then they told me I’d be getting my blood drawn at 10:23, 11:23 and 12:23 and that I couldn’t leave.. so I had to sit in the waiting room with my daughter and fiance. Yikes was that a challenge. My daughter had a lot of energy and I had to keep coming up with things to keep her occupied for the first hour.
I let her draw and play with some paper, gave her a snack, tried making shapes with pieces of napkin. haha I was getting real creative for a while. The first hour was finally up and they took my blood. After the first hour my daughter really wanted out of her stroller, so we let her walk around the waiting room a bit and decided to go in the hallway.. even though I wasn’t supposed to leave I didn’t think that would really hurt anything since I pretty much tell the people at the desk when it’s time for my blood to be taken anyways(as long as I don’t do anything too physical because that burns up the sugar.) We also went downstairs and got her some trail mix and tommy a drink (my fiance) Ok, so I got my blood taken a second time and then it seemed to take forever for the last hour to pass. I went to get the last sample drawn but this time it wasn’t so easy. The first 3 times they took blood they found my veins easily, but suddenly my veins didn’t wanna drain anymore. They poked both of my arms like two times each and finally resorted to drawing it from my wrist. I wish they would’ve done that in the first place instead of leaving a major bruise on one of my arms! It seems like the nurses get a little careless sometimes. I hope I never have to do that test again, 3 hours seems a bit insane to me.
I’m glad It’s over with and hopefully the results come back alright. I guess how they analyze them is they test all 3 samples and they should all range between certain numbers to be good and if 2 or more aren’t within the range and they are too high then they consider that gestational diabetes. If anything I think I may have a mild case according to my glucose test I already took.. and it might go away after the pregnancy. So I didn’t go shopping afterward, I just wanted to get home and wash the clinic off of me and my daughter. We put together a cute little shelf for my daughter tonight though and we’re gonna decide where to put it later on. She really got the idea of it though! She was putting her toys in all of the little cubby holes, it was so cute! Her mouth still hurts her slightly, but her appetite is way better. Poor baby!
So I’ve been leaving my phone on vibrate and when I checked my phone last night I had a message left from my clinic.. they said that I need to call them back and it was already way too late to do that when I checked my phone. Well getting that call only made me think one thing.. that something had to be wrong! So I had to wait nervously all night so that I could call them back this morning.
I called them back around 9:30 am and was on hold for a almost 10 minutes while they tried to find out who called me. They finally did and the nurse told me they got my glucose tolerance test back and that mine came back a little high. Normal is 130 and mine is 140 so now I need to go for further testing to check for diabetes. This is obviously not good news, it’s juuussst what I needed to hear. Home stress doesn’t really make it any easier to deal with either but there isn’t much I can do.
So I am fasting right now so I can go early in the morning to get the test done. It’s going to be kind of long because they want to draw my blood once every hour for 3 hours.. So I can either sit around there and wait the whole time.. or leave and be back on time for them to take the blood each time. Blah long day it’s gonna be. Maybe I can go shopping afterwards to take my mind off of things, that usually helps.
The same day I missed the call, I had been at IKEA. We got some lovely new additions for our home. IKEA usually has good quality for a good price. We got a new dresser for our new baby and a few other tiny little things for him..like a light, we got a table that comes with two chairs for my daughter and the baby.. I can just imagine them sitting at it together someday, how cute! My fiance got himself a new chair for his desk and handed down his old one to me, this one is much better than a kitchen chair! We got a few other things too.. we’re still adding to our home since we haven’t lived here very long. It can be pretty fun sometimes!
My daughter is also feeling better and I am sooo happy for that!
On the 27th of June I went for my routine monthly checkup. On sunday i will be 28 weeks. This pregnancy has gone by really fast and my approaching due date makes me have many different feelings. Ones of happiness, anxiousness and even disbelief. Even though I’ve gone through this before, it still amazes me. I’m sure my 2 year old daughter is going to be very happy when i bring home her brother for the first time in September!
So anyways, at my appointment they did all the usual checks on my weight, blood pressure, urine sample and then listening to the babies heartbeat. From what they’ve told me everything is going good so far. At this appointment it was also time for them to do the mandatory glucose tolerance test. I got to drink this nasty orange liquid and then wait around for an hour to go by so they could then take some blood. Compared to my last pregnancy I have not gained very much weight at all! Only around 10 pounds so far, I think i gained enough weight last time for both pregnancies! Well my next appointment is July 25th, so I’ll probably be writing about that.
I took my daughter to the park for a short time when we were all through, she loves going to the park, but it’s almost impossible to get her back into the car when we’re ready to go! I’m hoping to go to the beach this weekend and I’m also looking forward to the 4th of July, my daughter is going to love looking at the fireworks!! I want to go to a little show as well as buying a few fireworks of our own to light. Happy 4th of July!
