Archive for the ‘shopping’ Category

When I was pregnant with my first baby I was very ecstatic about shopping for all of the things that she was going to need when she entered the world! I bought her tons of new and adorable clothes and toys! I also got her a lot of different things like a swing, walker, bouncer etc.. Well after she was born and after having taken care of her for a while i realized I had bought way too much or that I had bought a brand that was more expensive than another. Sometimes brand doesn’t matter at all and sometimes it does, when one is worse than the other it’s usually pretty obvious.

I think most new mothers over shop. Being pregnant a second time I am still happy about going shopping but I only plan on getting the necessary things. I don’t really need to buy any clothes because I still have a lot of clothes leftover from my daughter that are neutral and people always give me a lot of clothes too. I had so much with my daughter that she didn’t even get to wear a lot of them before she was already too big for them. So I guess it’s important to try not to shop for too many clothes even though it may be hard to pass up all of the adorable outfits! I also don’t need any toys because I still have those too, a lot of people gave me some. She became bored of most of her toys after playing with them once or twice as well. Bonding with your baby is probably much more fun to them than a bunch of toys anyways..

So pretty much all I need this time is a dresser, car seat and a double stroller. I don’t plan on using a walker this time because I heard that may cause them to learn to walk at a later age. It supposedly can cause this because their legs move in a completely different motion than when they are actually walking. A bouncer and swing are not very important to me either because they are just replacing the attention that I can give to my baby and I’m sure my baby would much rather have my attention. I suppose if you are a busy mother and need your hands free for a moment they are a good way to keep your baby calm.

I also think that going to babies r us may not be the best choice if you have a tight budget. Walmart, Target and similar places can have items of equal value for a much cheaper price. I happen to love both of those stores! I also used to buy the most expensive diapers and wipes when my first daughter was born but now I just buy what works even if it isn’t the most expensive.

So I still love shopping I just try to be a little more wise about it. Now that I’m about to have two kids I also shop a lot less for myself. It seems way more fun to buy the kids things. If I buy myself something it’s usually because I really need it or really, really want it.
